This year’s Managing Aircraft Maintenance Costs conference once again brought together leading interested and affected parties from across the aviation industry. The keynote address from Swaran Sidhu focussing on the use of LEAN principles and the need to have organisation-wide buy-in to make this succeed set the tone for the conference. Day one provided insights through a number of case studies from airlines, leading MROs and peripheral service providers, all discussing how they have helped themselves, or their clients reduce their maintenance expenditure.
Day two opened with a late but welcome addition to the programme, KM Ali from Boeing describing their efforts to reduce maintenance expenditure in the 737NG. Lufthansa Technik provided further insights into LEAN principles and maintenance programme optimisation before a series of fascinating presentations from 3 very different industry stakeholders, Armac Systems, IAG and Honeywell, discussing the importance of effective inventory planning and optimisation.
More case studies followed describing how the latest technologies could be incorporated into your maintenance programme before Spirit Aerosystems addressed one of the leading themes of the conference, the impact of composite materials on maintenance costs in the short to medium turn.
